We would love to know more about you! Who you are and where you're from? When did you start street photography?

I am from China. I stumbled into street photography by chance. Wandering around the city, I was attracted by unplanned daily moments, and slowly fell in love with capturing the original look of life.

What inspired you to become a street photographer?

Soft natural light, passing strangers, trivial urban scenes and all quiet accidental beauty in life.

How would you describe your work in terms of style and/or approach?

My style is laid-back, subtle and heartfelt. I chase natural light and candid, unposed moments, capturing the quiet romance and gentle trivialities in urban daily life. I shoot casually without deliberate staging, aiming to keep every frame raw, soft and full of real-life warmth.

What is your photography routine like? Do you photograph every day?

I don’t shoot every single day. I wander and shoot whenever I’m in the mood. I love walking slowly through streets, observing light and crowds casually, and picking up beautiful accidental moments along the way.

What camera or mobile device do you use for photography? Do you shoot digitally, on film, or a mix of both?

I mainly use a digital camera for street photography. I stick to digital shooting for its convenience and flexibility, which lets me capture casual street moments anytime. I don’t shoot film for now, digital works perfectly for my daily wandering photography.

What challenges do you face when photographing on the street?

The biggest challenge is capturing ephemeral moments before they disappear. Natural light changes fast, and authentic human emotions only last for a second. Besides, I also try to stay unobtrusive, to record life naturally without disturbing others.

Do you ever wonder what happens to the people in your photos?

Yes, I often wonder about them. Every stranger in my frame carries their own stories and gentle lives. I hope these fleeting captured moments become small warm memories for them, just as they touch me.

In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception people have about street photography?

Many people think street photography is just random snapshots of passers-by. In fact, it is not casual shooting. It requires sensitivity to light, emotion and timing. It’s about feeling life quietly, not simply taking pictures of the street.

What are your favourite elements to capture in a street photograph? (light, colour, composition, human interaction, etc.)

Natural light is always my favorite. Besides, I love candid human emotions, casual body language and quiet urban atmosphere. I don’t chase fancy composition, but simple, real moments that carry life’s gentle vibes.

What is your take on social media influence on street photography?

Social media brings more exposure to street photography, yet it also makes many people chase trends and likes. Some create staged shots just for views, losing the original sincerity of street photography. For me, I stick to my own rhythm, photograph life from the heart, and never cater to online trends.

Are your prints available for purchase? If so, where can art buyers and collectors contact you to purchase them?

Currently, my photo prints are not available for sale yet. I mainly create street photography for personal love and emotional records. I may open print sales in the future and share relevant information on my social platforms in time.

What advice would you give to aspiring photographers?

Follow your own heart and shooting rhythm. Don’t blindly copy others’ styles or chase popular trends. Spend more time observing life, feeling light and emotions. Patience and sincerity are the best lenses for every photographer.

A huge thank you to Ken Zhang for sharing his incredible journey.
